Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership (SHAP) wanted to send a children’s story bus to the west of Ukraine to enable the children there to enjoy some colour and fun. The Go-Ahead Group donated a bus, SHAP volunteers removed the seats and repaired damage and local artist, Billy Beaumont painted an enchanted forest inside including Ukrainian figures in national costume and the Ukrainian alphabet. The costs of refurbishment of the bus and its journey to the Ukraine were met by a donation from Swindon Lions.
Swindon Lions Vice-President Pete Kennewell said: “Being a Lion is all about service and community. We are proud and delighted to contribute to a small local organisation that tries so hard to make a real difference to the lives of people in war torn Ukraine.”
